Numerous studies have linked higher intakes of leafy greens with lower risk of various cancers. Leafy green vegetables may also guard against gastric (stomach) cancer. A steady diet of leafy greens might also offer protection against ovarian cancer. Greens contain both vitamins A and C, both of which may reduce the risk of cancer.

arugula, beet greens, collard greens, dandelion greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach, Swish chard, and turnip greens
Eating more leafy greens might also ward off heart attack and stroke. The Journal of the National Cancer Institute revealed that total vegetable and fruit intake was linked with a reduced risk of heart disease, with green leafy vegetables offering the most protection. For every serving of leafy greens consumed per day, risk of heart disease decreased by 11%.

If you need another reason to eat more greens, it's this: They're good for your bones. Since having a low bone density is a risk factor for osteoporosis and hip fracture, it's logical to suspect that getting too little vitamin K might lead to bone fracture. Most of us don't get enough vitamin K in our diet. I read that scientists speculate it takes about 200 micrograms per day to protect our bones. It takes only one serving per day to get plenty of K for bone-protection.

Walking can help protect you during the cold & flu season. A study of over 1,000 men & women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes/day, at least 5 days/week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once/week or less, and, if they did get sick, it was for a shorter duration.
